A large East Coast utility wanted to help its customers support the growth of green power resources in the region. They began allowing consumers to purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) from wind, solar and biomass facilities in the region and add the cost to their monthly electricity bill; the energy generated from these is then delivered to the regional power pool on their behalf. They turned to longtime partner Allconnect to help them promote awareness and enrollments for the program. S
In a small region of the utility’s total program footprint, Allconnect began testing its geo-targeted serviceability and segmentation in June 2017 to identify the right prospects among the movers transferred to them by the utility, and educates those customers about how the program works and its benefits:
• The purchase of RECs helps support future growth and production of new clean energy technologies, as well as delivering more clean energy to the regional power pool.
• They have two purchase options, both of which are added to their monthly bill:
100% Option: This option allows people to purchase RECs to match their monthly electricity use. This cost is calculated by adding an additional 1.3 cents ($0.013) per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity used to their monthly bill amount.
Block Option: This option allows people to purchase RECs in any $2 fixed increment - as much as they wish. Each block guarantees that 154 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy is delivered to the power pool.
Allconnect’s solution not only captures new customers for the program, it also educates non-program participants and helps identify customers who may be interested in other products.
